Where is all the extra food going?

Most of it gets wasted. according to the USA department of agriculture the American household wastes 150000 tons of food a day. 4.2 trillion gallons of water is wasted a year. Richer countries waste about $630 billion of food every year. That's almost as much food as the entire net food production of Sub-Saharan Africa. 1.3 billion tons of food is wasted, this amount could feed around 3 billion people each year.
